Tullahoma, Tenn. – The Phoenix Charity, a 501(c)3 dedicated to providing service and companion dogs for veterans, successfully placed its first dog, Claire, a German Shepherd, with Iraq War veteran Roger Wagner. Through their flagship fundraiser, The Phoenix, held in March, the charity funded a new three-run kennel, the purchase of two pups, veterinary care, food and toys for the dogs. PSD Kennels in Poplarville, Mississippi, donated three dogs Claire, Khan and Xena while Fury, a black lab, and her brother Whoa, a chocolate lab, were acquired through fundraising. Khan, a Belgian Malinois, is in refresher training to serve as a mobility dog for first responder Morgan Head. Fury is training for an Iraq War veteran and will be ready in a year, while Whoa will join a Vietnam War veteran in 6-8 months. The Phoenix Charity matches service members with dogs to meet their specific needs. The charity runs solely on donations, all donations are tax-deductible.
