Frank White passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, at his home in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Born in Terry Mississippi on November 9, 1940, Frank spent his early years in the cotton fields with his mother as she picked cotton.

Equine Obituary – Papa’s Smoking Pusher

World Grand Champion Papa’s Smoking Pusher was laid to rest on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 28. He was one of the late Beverly Sherman’s favorite horses and was still owned by Floyd Sherman at the time of his death.

SHOW begins changes to Judging Program

The SHOW HIO held its annual training and testing on Saturday February 15, 2024 at the Embassy Suites in conjunction with the Walking Horse Trainers’ Association’s annual meetings and banquet. The SHOW HIO continues to look at ways to improve its licensing process as well as its training and is making several changes in 2025.

WHTA selects judges for National Trainers’ Show

The Walking Horse Trainers’ Association held its general membership meeting on Friday February 14, 2024. The meeting kicked off the annual banquet meeting and as part of the meeting the membership got to cast votes for who would judge the upcoming National Trainers’ Show.

Obituary – Elaine Marie Gilmore

Elaine Marie Gilmore, age 64 of Petersburg, TN died on Friday, February 7th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ. Elaine went home to be with the Lord. She was born in Paterson, NJ, and was raised in Brick, NJ where she lived before moving to Petersburg, TN several years ago.

Brooke Rollins confirmed as Secretary of Agriculture

President Trump’s pick to be the next Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins was confirmed by the United States Senate on February 13, 2025.  Rollins assumes the role immediately and will work to help implement President Trump’s agenda.  During President Trump’s first term, Sonny Perdue held the position of Secretary of Agriculture

Equine Obituary – Line’s Moose Munch

Moose foaled a beautiful filly by Jose’ Jose’ on September 1, 2024, but everything changed on September 14, 2024, and continued to worsen thru October, 22, 2024. Moose coliced four times and had two abdominal surgeries at Iowa State Veterinary Hospital in Ames, Iowa.

What's next?

On Friday, United States District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk issued his ruling with regards to the USDA’s rule to amend the Horse Protection Act regulations. The industry, through plaintiffs the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, Tom Gould and Kimberly Lewis, were successful in challenging the USDA’s new rule.
