FLORENCE – Maree Westbury Parrott Cherry, 95, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Central United Methodist Church, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the commons area at Central. Burial at Mount Hope Cemetery will be private.
Maree was born in Florence, the daughter of the late Jack William and Maggie Thompson Westbury. She graduated from Florence High School in 1946, where she proudly served as head Marshal and was valedictorian of her class. In 1948, she married James Sutton “Pete” Parrott and they enjoyed 51 years before he predeceased her.
She went to work as a stenographer with Atlantic / Seaboard Coastline Railroad at the young age of 17 and was quickly promoted to supervisor. She retired from the Railroad after 51 years of dedicated service.
Maree was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church and the Christian Family Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Forget-Me-Not Garden Club. She was a phenomenal cook, skilled card player and fisherman. The titles she most enjoyed were homemaker, mom and most notably “Wee”. Wee was beloved by all who knew her and was well known for being impeccably dressed in her fabulous high heel shoes and St. John suits. She was the epitome of a true southern lady.
In addition to her first husband, Pete Parrott, she was predeceased by her beloved second husband, Jack Cherry, Jr.
Maree's daughter, Kathy Parrott Jamison, is a longtime owner and exhibitor of the Tennessee Walking Horse.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Parrott Jamison (Randy Medlin), of Timmonsville; her granddaughter, Jacquelyn Jamison Atkinson (Mike), also of Timmonsville; two great-grandsons, James Sutton Fisher (Megan Carter) of Florence and Jack Francis Fisher of Timmonsville; a cousin, Lila Thomas, of Hanahan, SC; and a number other special cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Steve Ross and the MDVIP staff as well as the physicians and caregivers at McLeod Hospice House for the wonderful care Maree received for years and in her final days.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 265 W. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29501.
