Benjie Joe Wagoner, 44, of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, passed away on December 25, 2024. Born on April 29, 1980, to Billy Joe Wagoner and Joyce Wagoner, Benjie was a devoted son, father, and friend whose life was defined by his love for horses, his family, and his unwavering faith.

Luncheon planned for horse show organizers

The Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ & Exhibitors’ Association (TWHBEA) and the Walking Horse Trainers’ Association (WHTA) are hosting a luncheon for all show managers on February 15, 2025. The luncheon will be held in conjunction with the WHTA Annual Meeting & Awards Banquet, held at the Embassy Suites in Franklin, Tennessee. All show managers who host events that include Tennessee Walking Horses are invited to attend the luncheon.

Walking Horse Report Holiday office hours

The Walking Horse Report office is closed December 23 thru December 27 so that our staff can celebrate the Christmas Holiday. We will reopen on December 30, 2025. Obituary – William Leon Elliott

William Leon Elliott, age 84, of Tuscumbia AL, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024, at his residence. Leon was born April 27, 1940, in Spruce Pine, AL to Julian and Cleo Elliott. He worked his whole life at Muscle Shoals Mack Truck Center as a diesel mechanic.

Tennessee Equine Hospital expands to Shelbyville

Tennessee’s preeminent extensive care equine facility announced Thursday that Shelbyville will be their fifth location.

Tennessee Equine Hospital of Thompson’s Station is partnering with Wilhelm Equine Services to form “Tennessee Equine Hospital East, LLC” at 2769 Hwy 231 North.

Equine Obituary – Jose’ Jose’

It is a sad day at Sugar Creek. It is a day we have never wanted to think about but knew it was inevitable. The great Jose’ Jose’ has been humanely laid to rest. Our hearts are broken but we are so grateful to have been associated with such a great. A complete obituary will be forthcoming.

Obituary – Connie Craddock

Connie Claire Craddock, age 74 of Joelton, TN passed away on Saturday December 14, 2024.  She was a native of Rutherford County and was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Harrison Campbell Sr., and Amelia Claire Hartman Campbell; daughters, Shannon Wix and Lisa Smotherman; brother, Jack Harrison Campbell, Jr. and son in law Mark Craddock.

The Walking Horse Trainers’ Association will host their Annual Awards Banquet on February 14 & 15, 2025, at the Embassy Suites in Franklin, Tennessee. Cottonwood hosts Irish equestrian

Cottonwood Farms hosted Mike Nurse, an avid equestrian from Ireland on his first visit to America.  Nurse participates in show jumping in his native Ireland and wanted to ride a performance Tennessee Walking Horse on his visit to America.  The entire team at Cottonwood said Nurse was a natural and fit right in on a performance Tennessee Walking Horse.  Nurse rode Smokestack Lightning and three-time world champion Ultra Grey Pistol.

Obituary – Truman Volkart

Truman Volkart, 78, of, Tipton, MO passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Resthaven Convalescent Care in Sedalia, MO.  He was born on December 7, 1945 in Hanover, IL the son of Chris Volkart and Minnie (Bolinger) Volkart both of whom preceded him in death.
