The South Carolina Walking Horse Association (SCWHA) Board of Directors met on Sunday, January 11, to address the ongoing legal challenges facing the walking horse industry. During this meeting, the Board evaluated meaningful actions that SCWHA could take—despite being a small state association—to make a real and measurable impact.

As a result, the SCWHA Board has approved the following initiatives for immediate public release, with all proceeds directed to the industry legal fund:

1. SCWHA Golf Tournament
SCWHA will host a golf tournament at the esteemed Wedgefield Country Club in Georgetown, South Carolina, on Thursday, March 5. All proceeds from this event will be allocated to the legal fund.

2. Low Country Classic – Spring Show
At the Low Country Classic, $5 per entry will be allocated to the legal fund. The Low Country Classic will be held Saturday, May 2, at the South Carolina Fairgrounds in Columbia, S.C.

3. South Carolina Championships – Championship Show
At the 57th Annual South Carolina Championships, $10 per entry will be allocated to the legal fund. The South Carolina Championships will be held October 30–31 at the South Carolina Fairgrounds in Columbia, S.C.

While these efforts alone cannot shoulder the full financial burden, SCWHA firmly believes that if every horse show and association across the industry made a similar commitment, the collective impact would be transformative.

The SCWHA is proud to be the first state association to issue this challenge and strongly encourages other associations—regardless of size or HIO affiliation—to step forward and follow suit.

The future of our industry depends on action, not words.

Will you join us?

With gratitude,
