Ralph Wildon Johnson, age 93, of Shelbyville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 20, 2026, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Born on July 31, 1932, in Resaca, Georgia, Ralph lived a remarkable life defined by service, hard work, adventure, faith, and devotion to family.
Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. In his early career, he contributed to the guidance systems used in the NASA Apollo missions that carried astronauts to the moon. He later co-owned Johnson Construction and Paving Company before retiring from Nissan Motor Manufacturing.
A man of many talents and interests, Ralph was a Mason for more than 70 years and a faithful member of Fair Haven Baptist Church since 2004. He was an accomplished pilot who earned his high-performance aircraft certification alongside his son, Edward, with both receiving their licenses on the same day. Ralph also enjoyed traveling the world, farming, and raising Tennessee Walking Horses. Through his dedication and passion, he helped raise both World Champion and Reserve World Champion Tennessee Walking Horses.
Ralph never met a stranger and had a gift for making people laugh. He was famous for teasing those he cared about, always with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. Whether sharing a joke, telling a story, or gently picking on someone just to get a grin from them, Ralph brought joy wherever he went. His sense of humor was one of the many ways he showed his love, and those who knew him best will forever miss his laughter, quick wit, and the warmth he brought into every room.
Above all his accomplishments, Ralph was most proud of his family. His wife, children, granddaughter, and loved ones were the center of his world and the source of his greatest happiness. He celebrated their successes, supported them through life's challenges, and treasured every moment spent together. To his family, he was a steady presence, a trusted guide, and a loving example of faith, perseverance, and devotion.
